Which NSA chapters serve California?
NSA has three chapters in the state of California: Northern California, Los Angeles and San Diego.

Do all three chapters have programs for beginner and established speakers?

No, professional speaking schools are offered by the Northern California and Los Angeles chapters only.

I'm an NSA member, doesn't that mean I already belong to the local chapter?

NSA national members are NOT automatically placed into a chapter, rather the member needs to join the local chapter separately.

What is the main benefit from joining the local chapter?

As with your national membership, the group is charged with providing education and community to help speakers develop their craft and build a successful practice. High-value, content-rich meetings are designed to attract speakers of all experience levels in an environment of sharing, networking and support toward individual efforts. Developing local, special relationships with those who face similar business and professional challenges can make all the difference in your career.

Can't I just come to meetings?

Yes, members and guests are welcome to register for meetings; although local members receive preferential pricing. Members also receive preference for special events.

Do you serve a primary industry, such as entertainment?

NSA GLAC is here to serve all NSA members. Despite being in the entertainment capitol of the world, presently only a few members represent that sector. Southern California is a large and diverse market serving peoples from all over the world. The speaking profession touches just about every industry and culture. NSA GLAC prides itself on the diversity of members and we gain greatly from our broad and diverse representation.

Do I have to be a national NSA member to join the local chapter?

No, GLAC will accept Apprentice members into our chapter, although we do encourage all of our members to become NSA National members.

What is an Apprentice member?

The apprentice membership is for aspiring speakers who have not yet qualified for full NSA national membership. Apprentice chapter members receive the same benefits as other chapter members, although apprentice members are NOT allowed to use the NSA logo. Apprentice members are not NSA national members.

Can NSA GLAC help me qualify for national membership into NSA?

Qualification for NSA membership at the national level requires professional speaking experience. Your NSA GLAC leadership team can assist you in understanding the process, which will provide you insight and direction toward preparing your qualifying materials. Many aspiring speakers see the NSA qualification process as a mountain they're not able to climb. If you're speaking publicly and are looking to transition toward becoming a successful professional speaker, we can help you navigate the course. It's easier than you think, and besides, there are bigger (professional) mountains for you to climb once your reach the qualification milestone.

We welcome member suggestions for speakers and future programs. The Programs Committee is responsible for scheduling. Please contact acting Programs Committee Chair Gary Hankins with specific recommendations and input.

When and where are meetings held?

High-quality meetings that feature leading speakers with compelling content are scheduled monthly in southern California, typically the second Saturday of each month. Mastery events and other working programs are offered throughout the year. NSA GLAC covers a large geographical area; we attempt to rotate various locations, presently meeting in the Torrance area.

Why did you move from the other location(s)?

Location decisions are based on member feedback, logistical and cost requirements and other related parameters. We want to be responsive to your feedback and we're happy to consider any professional venue in southern California, so give us your input.
